SUPER ALIGNMENT – Parametric Design Fundamentals

A Design Course for 12d Model
This is the course for you if you are looking to advance your 12d Model Super Alignment design capabilities.
You will learn to:

  • Create element design parts for both horizontal and vertical design.
  • Modify horizontal and vertical elements.
  • Use the “fixed”, “floating” and “free” elements available in the super alignment.
  • Create kerb return strings both horizontally and vertically utilising the design elements.

This is an in-depth course in the use of Super Alignments as Control Strings (Road Centrelines etc).

It explores the concepts of Parametric Design, and the techniques for creating and editing Super Alignments and using “Fixed”, “Floating” and “Free” elements (Parametric Design).

The Dataset for this training course is found under the Resources Tab above.

A License of 12d Model with the Alignment module is required to complete this course.

At the end of this course there is a mandatory assignment to be completed to be eligible for a training certificate of competency.

    03:01

Topic 2 – Create Road RS2D01 Centreline
Topic 2 Summary. The lessons in Topic 2 will cover setting up the Horizontal Alignment design for the first of the roads in the subdivision, RS2D01. The alignment will be created using fixed lines and free arcs.

Topic 3 – Create Road RS2B01 Centreline
Topic 3 Summary In Topic 3 we will create the horizontal design of the super alignment for Road RS2B01 using the fixed curve and free line elements. Then at the start and end of the design use floating lines to finish off the design intersecting with the adjacent road.

Topic 4 – Create Road RS2D02 Horizontal Geometry
Topic 4 Summary In Topic 4 we will get you to create a horizontal design of the next road RS2D02, and then we will look at how you could use both methods to create the horizontal design for this road.

Topic 5 – Road RS2B01 Vertical Geometry
Topic 5 Summary In Topic 5 we will cover the vertical design of Road RS2B01, using fixed lines and free parabolas to set up the design of the super alignment. We will also look at the tricks to edit and move the vertical design elements.

Topic 6 – Vertical Geometry for RS2D01 & RS2D02 and Cul-de-Sac RS2D03
Topic 6 Summary In Topic 6 we will add vertical geometry to RS2D01 & RS2D02 using the element method. Then we will create the horizontal design for the Cul-de-Sac RS2D03.

Topic 7 – Create Kerb Return Elements
Topic 7 Summary In Topic 7 we will cover how to create the Kerb Returns for the subdivision, and the built in tools that can speed the process of setting all of them up.

Topic 8 – Assignment
In Topic 8 you will need to complete the assignment to complete the course and receive a certificate.
